John Owen-Jones | Jean Valjean
John was born in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Training: Central School of Speech and Drama (BA in acting).
Theatre: The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty's). John is the longest-running Phantom in the show's history with over 1,400 performances, and the youngest actor to play the role of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables (Palace). Theatre: Ellen in Miss Saigon (national tour), created the role of Meat in We Will Rock You (Dominion), My Fair Lady (National Theatre and Theatre Royal, Drury Lane), in which she understudied and played Eliza Doolittle on numerous occasions, Magic of the Musicals (national tour), Mary in Merrily We Roll Along (Yvonne Arnaud Theatre). Recent workshops include Way Beyond Blue, written by Imogen Stubbs and directed by Trevor Nunn, and the title role in Helen of Troy, directed by Gary Griffin.

Training: Guilford School of Acting.
Theatre: National Theatre: member of Sir Laurence Olivier’s company, playing varied principal roles, including a Woman Killed with Kindness, Rosencrantz and Guilderstern are Dead, Edward II, Danton’s Death, Sancho Panza and Olivier’s production of The Merchant of Venice, which was subsequently televised and released on video, and Fag in The Rivals, Love for Love, The Threepenny Opera and The American Clock, Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd with Dennis Quilley and Julia MacKenzie (Olivier Award nominated). West End: Barry’s long association with Sir Cameron Mackintosh began in 1993 when he created the role of Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors (Comedy). He is delighted to be returning to Les Misérables playing Thénardier, a role he first played in 1986 for three years, returning in 2000. Other roles include Mr Bumble in Oliver! (London Palladium), Otto Kringelein in Grand Hotel (Dominion), he was Olivier Award nominated for his portrayal of Ladsislav Sipos in the award-winning musical She Loves Me (Savoy), Cogsworth in the UK premiere of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Dominion), Amos Hart in Chicago (Adelphi). Other: Recreating the role of Cogsworth for the international tour of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and the critically acclaimed production of Cabaret (English Speaking Theatre of Frankfurt). Concerts: Most recently played Thénardier in the Les Misérables national tour of Denmark. Television: Further up Pompeii with Frankie Howard, The Merchant of Venice with Sir Laurence Olivier, Shake Hands Forever (a Ruth Rendell mystery) and the feature film Porridge. Film: Stage by Stage which follows Les Misérables from its original concept to what we know it as today. Film: Claire was most recently seen as Mrs Fezziwig in the musical feature film A Christmas Carol starring Frasier’s Kelsey Grammer.
An established concert artist both in the UK and abroad, Claire has sung with many of the world’s leading orchestras, performing a varied repertoire from classical to contemporary, and is also enjoying success as a song writer. Her song ‘Song of Dreams’ has been recorded by EMI Classics’ Becky Taylor for her debut album A Dream Come True, and was also the first single taken from the album.
Television: Appearances include Visiting Day, Have You Met Miss Jones?, Wood and Walters and the Christmas Eve concerts form the Royal Albert Hall, Joy to the World. She has also had the privilege of singing for Her Majesty the Queen in the 1991 Royal Variety Show and at Windsor Castle for the state visit of President Chirac in 2004.
Radio: Claire has been heard on the radio many times, most notably in Songs from the Shows and the acclaimed series of American musicals for Radio 2, as Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Marion Paroo in The Music Man, Agnes Gooch in Mame and Maggie in A Chorus Line. She is also a regular guest on Friday Night is Music Night.
Recordings: Miss Saigon (original cast recording) and for the BBC Celebration Series, Celebrating… Sondheim, Celebrating… A Tribute to Jule Styne, Celebrating… Jerry Herman, Celebrating…Andrew Lloyd Webber and Celebrating… A Tribute to Kander and Ebb, when Claire had the great honour of being accompanied by the composer himself.
Claire is married to composer Simon Hale and they have two children.

Hayden is from New Zealand.
Training: NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art), Australia.
Theatre: In Australia and New Zealand his roles include Jack in Into the Woods, The Wizard of Oz, Gremio in Kiss Me, Kate, the leading role of Francis in the 2003 revival of the hit Australian play Three Winters Green (Stables Theatre, Sydney). This year Hayden was one of the 12 finalists in the BBC Voice of Musical Theatre Competition in Cardiff, performed his solo show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Centre and, most recently, won considerable critical acclaim as Lt Joe Cable in the Australian revival of South Pacific (Adelaide Festival Centre).
Concerts: Hayden’s solo shows have been acclaimed in New York and Australia and have included Quarterlife Crisis, Me to a Tee and his recent hit show The Gin is Cold, but the Piano is Hot - The Music of Kander and Ebb. His great success as host of the longrunning Muftee Show, a late-night mix of music and satire, gave him the opportunity to perform with every major musical theatre performer in Australia. Muftee toured to New York in 2004, where Hayden performed with Stephen Schwartz, Julia Wilson, Brent Barrett and John Bucchino as part of the show’s format. Hayden won the New York Award at the 2002 Sydney Cabaret Convention. His New York debut season was at Don’t Tell Mamma. He has since returned to New York and in 2003-04 sang with legendary New York diva Andrea Marcovicci at the Algonquin Oak Room.
Recordings: In 2003 Hayden released his first solo self-titled CD, which won a special award on the Cabaret Hotline Online website as one of the five best male CDs of that year.

Theatre: Mama I Want to Sing with Chaka Kahn (Cambridge), The Who’s Tommy (Shaftesbury), Smoky Joe’s Café (Prince of Wales). Recordings: Shaun has signed a major recording contract with Sony/Oyster music. He has produced two critically acclaimed albums, entitled Shaun Escoffery and Soulonica, which had worldwide releases. Shaun’s latest album is entitled Back to Soul. Concerts: He has performed all over the world and supported major artists such as Beverley Knight and Mica Paris. Training: Studied with a scholarship for three years at a stage school of music, dance and drama in Hamburg.
