PHILIP HERNANDEZ RETURNS TO LES MISÉRABLES BEGINNING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27th BROADWAY'S FORMER JEAN VALJEAN TO ASSUME THE ROLE OF VALJEAN'S NEMESIS, INSPECTOR JAVERT
PHILIP HERNANDEZ returns to the Broadway production of Les Misérables beginning Tuesday evening, October 27th at The Imperial Theater (249 West 45th Street). Mr. Hernandez previously played the leading role of Jean Valjean, and will now assume the role of Valjean’s nemesis, the ruthless Inspector Javert. He is the first actor to have been cast in both leading male roles in the Broadway production.
Mr. Hernandez made his Broadway debut in the original Broadway cast of Kiss of the Spider Woman. He played Valjean on Broadway from October 1995 through January 1996. He created the role of Reverend Gonzalez in Paul Simon’s The Capeman and starred as Don Quixote in the acclaimed Paper Mill Playhouse revival of Man of La Mancha. Mr. Hernandez is the co-founder and Executive Producer of New York’s award-winning Judith Shakespeare Company.
The cast of Les Misérables includes Fred Inkley as Valjean, Alice Ripley as Fantine, Megan Lawrence as Eponine, Peter Lockyer as Marius, Christeena Michelle Riggs as Cosette (with Tobi Foster assuming the role on November 6th), Nick Wyman as Thénardier, Fuschia Walker as Madame Thénardier and Stephen R. Buntrock as Enjolras.
