CATHERINE HICKLAND STAR OF ABC-TV's LOVING TO MAKE HER BROADWAY DEBUT AS 'FANTINE'
October 30, 1994- Catherine Hickland, who stars as the selfish 'Tess Wilder' on ABC-TV's popular daytime-drama Loving, will make her Broadway debut as the selfless 'Fantine' in Les Misérables beginning Tuesday, January 17 at the Imperial Theatre.
November 30, 1994- Hickland was approached about auditioning for Les Misérables by Richard Jay-Alexander, the show's executive producer / associate director, after reading a magazine article in which the actress said she dreamed of singing on Broadway someday. Hickland, who has been taking voice lessons for sometime, was thrilled at the offer to audition, and Jay-Alexander was delighted with what he saw. "When I first met Catherine I found her to be an amazing spirit," said Jay-Alexander. "Her enthusiasm and desire to perform on Broadway were infectious, but most impressive was the work she did herself between the first time I saw her and the day she was cast. She really only has herself to congratulate for getting the role."
A veteran of daytime dramas, Hickland has been seen in the dual role of Julie Clegg and Jenny Diamond on "Capitol," and as Dr. Courtney Marshall on "Texas." After two years of living and working in Rome, she returned as tough 'Tess Wilder' on "Loving." Hickland's numerous prime-time series guest appearances include "Knight Rider," "Eight is Enough," "Airwolf" and the television movies "The Seeding of Sara Burns" and "To Race the Wind." Her feature film credits include The Last Married Couple in America with George Segal and Sweet Justice, in which she demonstrates her karate skills. Ms. Hickland recently starred on stage in Los Angeles in Run For Your Wife, opposite her husband, Emmy Award winner, Michael E. Knight of "All My Children."
Les Misérables plays Tuesday - Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM; Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2:00 PM and Sundays at 3:00 PM. For tickets and information call Telecharge at (212) 239-6200.
