RICKY MARTIN TO MAKE HIS BROADWAY DEBUT IN LES MISÉRABLES

April 29, 1996- Latin superstar Ricky Martin will make his Broadway debut as 'Marius' in Cameron Mackintosh's production of Les Misérables beginning June 24 at the Imperial Theatre for a limited engagement through September 8 only.

Martin, a chart-topping, multi-platinum recording star and successful film actor in Latin America as well as a star of American television on ABC's "General Hospital," will play the role of 'Marius,' an idealistic young student revolutionary in 19th century Paris.

Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Martin joined the phenomenally successful singing group Menudo at the age of 12, performing for sold-out audiences around the world for five years. Since then, as a solo artist, Martin has produced three hugely-successful albums for Sony Music and his concert tours have sold out arenas in more than 20 countries around the world. Martin recently took New York by storm with an electrifying, sold-out performance at Radio City Music Hall on March 30. In 1993, Martin received the "Best New Latin Artist" Award at the Billboard Video Awards. As an actor, Martin received a Heraldo Award (the Mexican equivalent of the Academy Award) for his performance in the film "Alcanrzar Una Estrella."
