BROADWAY STAR AND 1998 TONY AWARD NOMINEE ALICE RIPLEY TO ASSUME THE ROLE OF FANTINE IN THE BROADWAY PRODUCTION OF LES MISÉRABLES BEGINNING TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th

Alice Ripley will assume the role of Fantine in the Broadway production of Les Misérables beginning Tuesday, September 8th at the Imperial Theater (249 West 45th Street). Ms. Ripley will be returning to Broadway for the first time since earning a 1998 Tony Award nomination for her highly-praised performance as Violet Hilton in the Broadway musical Side Show. This will also mark her eagerly-awaited debut with the Broadway cast of Les Misérables, having previously played the role of Fantine on the National Tour to great acclaim in 1993.

Miss Ripley received ecstatic notices for her sensational performance as one-half of 'The Hilton Sisters' in the already legendary Side Show. She and her on stage partner, Emily Skinner, earned an unusual joint Tony Award nomination for their landmark performances as the Siamese twins. Miss Ripley also earned a Drama Desk nomination.

She made her Broadway debut in 1993 in The Who's Tommy and later created the role of Betty Schaeffer to rave reviews in the original Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. Miss Ripley had the honor of starring in the inaugural production at Disney's New Amsterdam Theatre, Alan Menken's King David, in which she played Bathsheba, and also played Daisy Mae in the Encores! Series production of Li'l Abner at City Center.

The fourth longest-running Broadway show of all time, Les Misérables is currently in its Twelfth Year in New York. The epic musical has been seen by over 40 million people, with a total gross of over $1.8 billion.

Beginning September 8th, the performance schedule for Les Misérables at the Imperial Theatre will be Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. For tickets ($15-$75) and information call Tele-charge at (212) 239-6200.
