IVAN RUTHERFORD TO ASSUME THE ROLE OF 'JEAN VALJEAN' IN THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY PRODUCTION OF LES MISERABLES TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9
Beginning Tuesday, September 9, the role of the fugitive Jean Valjean in the 10th Anniversary Broadway production of Les Misérables will be played by IVAN RUTHERFORD. Mr. Rutherford replaces Robert Marien, who will return to his native Canada to perform in several previously arranged concerts.
Mr. Rutherford, currently performing this role every Wednesday matinee and Thursday evening, began his association with Les Misérables as an ensemble member of the National Tour, then went on to take over the role of Valjean. He joined the Broadway cast over a year ago and was asked to continue with this special 10th Anniversary company. Among his many credits are Camelot starring John Cullum, Tony in West Side Story, The Caliph in Kismet and in 1994 received a Drama-Logue Award as Lt. Joe Cable in South Pacific. This York, Pennsylvania native is an accomplished drummer, as well as a 1st degree black belt with the Japan Karate Association.
Continuing in their co-starring roles are Christopher Innvar as Javert, Juliet Lambert as Fantine, Sarah Uriarte Berry as Eponine, Peter Lockyer as Marius, Christeena Michelle Riggs as Cosette, Nick Wyman as Thenardier, Fuschia Walker as Madame Thenardier and Stephen R. Buntrock as Enjolras.
As of Tuesday, September 2 the performance schedule for Les Misérables at the Imperial Theatre (249 West 45 Street) is Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM.
