DAVID MASENHEIMER RETURNS TO BROADWAY AND THE ROLE OF INSPECTOR JAVERT IN LES MISÉRABLES BEGINNING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4th
DAVID MASENHEIMER will return to the Broadway production of LES MISÉRABLES as the ruthless Inspector Javert beginning Monday evening, November 4th at The Imperial Theater (249 West 45th Street). He replaces Philip Hernandez, whose final performance will be Saturday, November 2nd.
Mr. Masenheimer has a long association with LES MISÉRABLES, having played Javert twice before with both the Broadway and American National Companies. His first engagement was with the National Tour from July 1993 through January 1994, later making his Broadway debut from July 1995 until October 1996. David rejoined the National Tour in January of 1997 staying through July of that year, including the 40 performances when the tour set up shop in New York at The Imperial Theatre while Broadway’s Tenth Anniversary Company rehearsed for the show’s re-opening.
Since making his Broadway debut in 1996, Masenheimer has appeared in the Broadway companies of Sideshow (The Shiek/Tod Browning), Ragtime (Henry Ford), The Scarlet Pimpernel (Tussaud) and as Mandy Patinkin’s standby in The Wild Party (Burrs), performing frequently opposite Toni Collette and Eartha Kitt. Off-Broadway includes Eating Raoul and The Petrified Prince and national tours include Les Misérables (Javert), Evita (Che), Chess (The Arbiter) and Aspects of Love (Marcel). David grew up in York, PA and holds both a B.A. and an honorary doctorate from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA.
A staggeringly popular and financial success since its opening on March 12, 1987, the New York production of LES MISÉRABLES has been seen by 9 million people, grossing over $390 million. The longest-running show currently on Broadway, it became the second longest-running show in Broadway history (behind Cats) on January 25, 2002. LES MISÉRABLES will end its amazing Broadway run on March 15, 2003 in its 17th year after 6,612 performances.
Worldwide, the musical has been seen by over 50 million people, with a total box office gross of over $1.8 billion. So far, there have been 53 productions of LES MISÉRABLES, in 34 countries, in 20 different languages.
Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, LES MISÉRABLES is an epic saga that sweeps through three turbulent decades of 19th century French history. The show is also the story of one man, the fugitive Jean Valjean, who is pitted against the self-righteous Inspector Javert, in a lifelong struggle to evade capture.
Continuing in their roles in the Broadway Cast are J. Mark McVey (Jean Valjean), Philip Hernandez (Javert through 11/2), Jacquelyn Piro (Fantine through 11/2, Lauren Kennedy begins 11/4), Diana Kaarina (Eponine), Kevin Kern (Marius), Sandra Turley (Cosette), Christopher Mark Peterson (Enjolras), Nick Wyman (Thénardier) and Aymee Garcia (Madame Thénardier).
LES MISÉRABLES plays Monday - Saturday evenings at 8PM, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2PM. Ticket prices range from $25 - $100.
