Cameron Mackintosh shares some exciting news about the film role of Eponine.

Cameron Mackintosh appeared at the curtain call at last nights performance of Oliver! at The Palace Theatre, Manchester and surprised Samantha Barks, who plays Nancy, by announcing that Tom Hooper has chosen her for the part of Eponine in the forthcoming movie of the epic stage musical 'Les Miserables'.

Samantha said, "it was the most incredible moment of my life".

Directed by Tom Hooper (The King's Speech), Les Miserables is a Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Debra Hayward and Cameron Mackintosh. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried and Aaron Tveit. The screenplay is by William Nicholson, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg based on the novel by Victor Hugo and adapted from Boublil and Schönberg’s hit stage musical Les Miserables, produced by Cameron Mackintosh.

Barks was first discovered in 2008 as one of thousands of hopefuls in the BBC talent show series 'I'd Do Anything'. She was the youngest finalist in the competition to find a new Nancy for Cameron Mackintosh’s West End revival of Oliver! starring Rowan Atkinson, and is currently playing the role of Nancy in Mackintosh’s UK tour of the musical.

No stranger to the role, Barks played Eponine in the London production of 'Les Miserables' in 2010 and was subsequently chosen to play the part in the spectacular 25th Anniversary celebration at London’s O2 which was screened live in cinemas across the globe and is now a best-selling DVD. The search for someone to play Eponine has been global and extensive and Samantha won the role over many established singers and actresses.

Shooting will start in March.

Aaron Tveit is confirmed to join the cast of Les Miserables, Universal and Working Title's big-screen adaptation of the classic musical.

Aaron is known for playing the roles of Fiyero in Wicked, Gabe in Next to Normal and Frank Abagnale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can on Broadway.
He is also known for playing Tripp Van Der Bilt in TV's Gossip Girl. Oscar winner Tom Hooper (The King¹s Speech) is directing the movie, whose cast includes Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe as his nemesis Inspector Javert. Also confirmed are Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Eddie Redmayne as Marius and Amanda Seyfried as Cosette.

William Nicholson (Gladiator), Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg wrote the screenplay, basing it on the Victor Hugo novel and the musical. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producing with Debra Hayward and Cameron Mackintosh.

Aaron will be playing the role of Enjolras.

Ramin joins the current West End company which includes Hadley Fraser as ‘Javert’, Caroline Sheen as ‘Fantine’, Alexia Khadime as ‘Eponine’, Craig Mather as ‘Marius’, Cameron Blakely as ‘Thénardier’, Katy Secombe as ‘Madame Thénardier’, Liam Tamne as ‘Enjolras’ and Lisa-Anne Wood as ‘Cosette’.
Ramin Karimloo most recently played the role of ‘The Phantom’ in the 25th Anniversary celebrations of “The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall”, a role he has previously played in the West End. Hugh Jackman is to play Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe is to play Javert.

Working Title's live-action film adaptation of Cameron Mackintosh's hit stage musical LES MISERABLES by Boublil and Schonberg will be directed by Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) and written by William Nicholson. Universal Pictures are releasing the film worldwide.

The film is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner with Cameron Mackintosh and Debra Hayward. Liza Chasin is the executive producer.

The stage version of LES MISERABLES holds the record as the longest running musical in the world. To date it has been seen by nearly 60 million people in 42 countries and 21 languages.
Last year, it celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Cameron Mackintosh commented, “Even though I have dreamt about making the film of LES MISERABLES for over 25 years, I could never have imagined that we would end up with the dream director Tom Hooper and the dream cast of Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. Not only were they born to play these roles vocally but they thrillingly inhabit this great score. Major cast changes in “LES MISÉRABLES” at the Queen's theatre from 23 Jun

There will be major cast changes in the legendary musical “LES MISÉRABLES” at the Queen’s Theatre from Thursday 23 June 2011.

Caroline Sheen will play ‘Fantine’, Alexia Khadime ‘Eponine’, Craig Mather ‘Marius’, Katy Secombe ‘Madame Thénardier’, Liam Tamne ‘Enjolras’ and Lisa-Anne Wood ‘Cosette’. They join the previously announced Alfie Boe as ‘Jean Valjean’, Matt Lucas as ‘Thénardier’ and Hadley Fraser as ‘Javert’.

Following the evening performance on Saturday 18 June, the production will close for three days in order to facilitate the installation of a brand new state of the art surround sound system and the building of a bigger pit to accommodate the slightly larger orchestra necessary to play the new 25th Anniversary Tour orchestrations.The production will re-open with the new cast and musicians on Thursday 23 June.

Caroline Sheen’s many West End credits include ‘Sophie’ in “Mamma Mia!”, creating the role of ‘Jennifer Gabriel’ in “The Witches of Eastwick” and ‘Eponine’ in “Les Misérables”. Her other credits include the title role in “Mary Poppins” in both the UK and US tours. Alexia Khadime recently completed a successful run as ‘Elphaba’ in “Wicked” at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End. Her other West End credits include ‘Nala’ in “The Lion King”. Katy Secombe’s credits include ‘Rosie’ in “Mamma Mia!” in the West End, ‘Mama Morton’ in the tour of “Chicago” and “Guys and Dolls” at the National Theatre. Liam Tamne recently appeared in “Hair” in the West End. His other West End credits include ‘Link Larkin’ in “Hairspray!” and “Wicked”. He also appeared in “Departure Lounge” at Waterloo East Theatre. “LES MISÉRABLES” marks both Craig Mather and Lisa-Anne Wood’s West End debuts.

At the finale of the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert at The O2, four ‘Jean Valjeans’ sang a spine tingling, and specially orchestrated 'Bring Him Home'.

They were, Colm Wilkinson from the original London cast, Simon Bowman from the current London cast at the Queen’s Theatre, John Owen-Jones from the New 25th Anniversary touring production and Alfie Boe who sang the role in The O2 Concert.

It was such a success that Cameron Mackintosh and Tickets for Troops have teamed up to release it as a single to raise money for the charity. The single will be released on iTunes on 12 December for 99p and will be available in the shops on 13 December with all profits going to ‘Ticket for Troops’. The Valjean Quartet will perform “Bring Him Home” on this year’s Royal Variety Performance which is broadcast on BBC1 on 16 December .

ALFIE BOE headed The O2 Concert cast as ‘Jean Valjean’. He is one of the country’s leading tenors and best selling recording artists. Alfie shot to fame while starring in Baz Luhrmann’s “La Boheme” on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for his performance. His other credits include a nomination for a Classical Brit Award for his album “Onward” and a sell-out production of “The Merry Widow” at the London Coliseum. His future opera engagements will see him return to the English National Opera to sing ‘Nadir’ in a new production of “The Pearl Fishers” and also his return to the Royal Opera House in Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette”.

COLM WILKINSON achieved international fame when he created the role of ‘Jean Valjean’. He played the role both in London's West End and on Broadway. Ramin made his West End debut in in the original production of "Les Misérables" at the Queen's Theatre playing 'Feuilly' and understudying the roles of 'Marius' and 'Enjolras'. After a year playing 'Raoul' in "The Phantom of the Opera" at Her Majesty's Theatre, Ramin returned to "Les Misérables", this time taking on the role of 'Enjolras' which he also played at a special performance by invitation of Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle. He then played 'Chris' in the UK tour of "Miss Saigon", followed by a return to "The Phantom of the Opera", this time taking the part of 'The Phantom' for the show's 21st Anniversary. He was recognised by fans of the show, earning him a Theatregoers' Choice Award Nomination for Best Actor. He has since created the part of 'The Phantom' in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Love Never Dies" at the Adelphi Theatre receiving rave reviews for his performance.

Samantha recently made her West End debut when she joined the Original Production of "Les Misérables" at the Queen's Theatre as 'Eponine'. She was discovered on BBC1's "I'd Do Anything", coming third in the competition to win the part of 'Nancy' in Cameron Mackintosh's production of "Oliver!". Following the competition, she went on to play 'Sally Bowles' in the UK tour of "Cabaret". Cameron Mackintosh offered Samantha the part of 'Eponine' in the Anniversary Concert at the O2 directly after seeing her first public performance at the Queen's.

In other casting news, the Original Production at the Queen's Theatre will welcome Norm Lewis as 'Javert' from 5 July and X Factor's Lucie Jones as 'Cosette' from 12 July. Lucie joins Nick Jonas as 'Marius'. Nick has managed to extend his run in the show for an extra two weeks until 24 July, due to a recent change in his world tour schedule that will now start at a later date. Alistair Brammer returns to the role of 'Marius' from 26 July.

Broadway star Norm Lewis comes direct to London having received rave reviews for "Sondheim on Sondheim" at Studio 54 in New York. Norm played 'Javert' in the Broadway production of "Les Misérables" and his other Broadway credits include 'John' in "Miss Saigon" and 'King Triton' in Disney's "The Little Mermaid". Lucie Jones appeared on ITV1's X Factor week after week as one of the final twelve contestants. During her time with the X factor she featured as a soloist on the X Factor charity single "You Are Not Alone", which reached number one in the UK charts. She will soon be seen in "The Sarah Jane Adventures" for the BBC.

Cameron Mackintosh is delighted to announce that his record-breaking new production of the World’s Longest Running Musical “LES MISÉRABLES” will play the Barbican Theatre in London (where it originally premiered in 1985) as part of the show’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. Les Mis will run for 22 performances only between 14 September – 2 October 2010 and tickets go on sale Tuesday 16 March. This will be the first time anywhere in world that two productions of the same musical are playing in the same city, GIVING London theatregoers the only chance of seeing this acclaimed new production.

This exciting new production opened in Cardiff in December 2009 to sell out business and rave reviews and has gone on to break box office records in Manchester, Norwich and Birmingham. Cameron Mackintosh’s production of “LES MISÉRABLES” is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. It has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, adapted by Trevor Nunn and John Caird, with additional material by James Fenton.

This new production is directed by Laurence Connor and James Powell and designed by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. Original costumes by Andreane Neofitou, additional costumes by Christine Rowland, lighting by Paule Constable and sound by Mick Potter.

Audiences around the world are invited to join Les Misérables in celebrating its 25th Anniversary on 3 October when the “people’s musical” is beamed live via satellite to cinemas across the globe from the O2 Arena where a special 25th Anniversary Concert will be held in its honour.

The world’s longest running musical will be screened live in more than 175 cinemas nation-wide across the UK and more widely, throughout Europe, North America, Japan and Australia. European countries joining in the big screen birthday party include Germany, The Netherlands, Ireland, Norway and Denmark.

The 25th Anniversary Concert, produced by Cameron Mackintosh in association with Universal Pictures, will feature over 500 actors and musicians, with star performances from a host of internationally renowned performers including Alfie Boe as “Jean Valjean”, Nick Jonas as “Marius”, Norm Lewis as “Javert”, Matt Lucas as “Thénardier”, Lea Salonga as “Fantine”, Jenny Galloway as “Madame Thénardier”, Ramin Karimloo as “Enjolras”, Camilla Kerslake as “Cosette” and Samantha Barks as “Eponine”.

Cameron Mackintosh is delighted to announce that John Owen-Jones will star as ‘Jean Valjean’, Earl Carpenter as ‘Javert’ and Gareth Gates as ‘Marius’ in the exciting new 25th anniversary production of the World’s Longest Running Musical “LES MISÉRABLES,” . The production will have spectacular new designs inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo and will embark on a major international tour commencing in the UK at the WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE CARDIFF on 12 December 2009 where it recently went on sale, breaking all box office records in the theatre’s history! Broadway and West End star John Owen-Jones was recently hailed by the New York Post as the best Jean Valjean since Colm Wilkinson. As well as starring in “Les Misérables” in both the West End and on Broadway he has also appeared as ‘The Phantom’ in “The Phantom of the Opera” at Her Majesty’s Theatre. Earl Carpenter who is currently playing ‘Javert’ in the West End production of “Les Misérables” has also starred as ‘The Phantom’ in West End as well as the starring role of ‘Darryl Van Horne’ in “The Witches of Eastwick” at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Gareth Gates needs no introduction. A multi million selling popstar who still has the 2nd best selling single this decade. More recently he has played the title role of ‘Joseph’ in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre and was a semi finalist in ‘Dancing on Ice’ 2008.
