Andrew Bruce began his career in theatre at Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 1968. He was appointed head of sound at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1971 and a year later co-founded Autograph Sound Recording. Andrew’s specialist work in musicals arose from close involvement in several landmarks of British musical theatre such as Evita, Cats and Starlight Express.
Today Autograph are a leading British sound design and equipment hire company, responsible for numerous theatre productions at home and abroad, including Les Misérables, Kiss Me, Kate, Cats, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, We Will Rock You, Miss Saigon, My Fair Lady and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
In 1981 he was sound consultant on the original Paris version of Les Misérables and went on to design the sound for the 1985 London production. He remains responsible for all productions of the show in Europe, the United States and Asia.
His other credits include the original West End productions of Song and Dance, Abbacadabra, Little Me, Chess, Follies, Into the Woods, Children of Eden, City of Angels, Martin Guerre, The Fix, The Witches of Eastwick, Mamma Mia! and Miss Saigon.
He has designed UK tours of Miss Saigon, Cats, Martin Guerre, Oliver! and Les Misérables. His latest designs include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the RSC’s productions of The Secret Garden and Alice in Wonderland.
