Jean Valjean at certain performances

John Owen-Jones

John has had a long and happy association with Les Misérables. He remains the youngest actor in the show’s history to have played Jean Valjean (first playing the role at just 26), has appeared as Valjean twice on Broadway (in 2006 and 2016) and was the first British actor to play the role in both New York and London. He was also the first actor to play Jean Valjean in the newly staged version of the show for its 25th Anniversary tour in 2010 and can be heard as Valjean on the Les Misérables Live! album. John played the role of The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera nearly 2000 times (more times than any actor in the show’s West End history) and appeared in special finales for both the Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera 25th anniversary concert events. Elsewhere, John has performed in numerous plays and musicals, appeared many times on television and radio and has performed in concert worldwide in venues such as Carnegie Hall, New York and the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow. John has released 6 acclaimed solo albums: Hallelujah (2006) John Owen-Jones (2009), Unmasked (2011), Rise (2015), Bring Him Home (2017) and Music of the Night (Japan-only release). His new album Spotlight will be released in February 2019.
