Matt Kinley

Matt graduated from the Motley Theatre design course in 1994 and, after leaving, spent the next decade working at the National Theatre in London, as a designer, design associate and draughtsman.

After leaving the National in 2003, Matt worked within commercial theatre, developing many large productions and adapting them for the tour.

As part of a long working partnership with Cameron Mackintosh, Matt initially adapted the original staging of My Fair Lady and also the new version of Mary Poppins, which has toured internationally since its inception in 2007.

In 2009, he was invited to redesign Les Misérables for its 25th anniversary production as a UK tour. The success of the new staging has seen subsequent productions across the world and culminated as the Broadway production in 2014. Matt also designed the 25th anniversary concerts of Les Mis at the O2 Arena and The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2013, Matt was invited to work with Totie Driver as a co-designer and redevelop Miss Saigon ahead of its London revival at the Prince Edward Theatre in 2014 and subsequent transfer to Broadway.

Recent productions include: Phantom: the Kiss of Christine and Phantom: the Untold Story, Dear World, Man of La Mancha, Broadway to the Bay, Oliver!, Sunday in the Park With George, Chess and Annie. He is currently designing Sunset Boulevard for production in Brazil in spring 2019.
